The S&P/Case-Shiller home price index showed declines in both the 10-city and 20-city composite indexes from July to August, though prices remained higher than a year ago. The 10-city index was up 2.6% and the 20-city index up 1.7% over the past 12 months. Twelve cities in the 20-city index posted price declines for the year ending in August, while cities like Los Angeles, Boston, and San Francisco that entered the housing slump earlier remained higher.
